Plastic is an important material for our economy and our daily lives. However, it can also have serious negative effects on the environment and human health.
The European Plastics Strategy aims to design, produce, use and recycle plastic products in the EU in a different manner:
Protect our environment by reducing marine litter, greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on imported fossil fuels.
Support safer and more sustainable patterns of consumption and production for plastics.
Change the way plastic products are designed, produced, used and recycled in the EU.
An initiative within the framework of the EU Strategy for Plastics regarding voluntary industry commitments. In December 2018, the European Commission launched the Circular Plastics Alliance to help plastic value chains boost the European market for recycled plastics to 10 million tonnes by 2025.
